WESTFIELD, Ind. — What began as a routine Wednesday practice session at LIV Golf Indianapolis quickly turned into one of the biggest media stories of the day, with Crossroads Sports’ Brandon Reef finding himself at the center of the coverage surrounding Bryson DeChambeau.

While covering LIV Golf Indianapolis at The Club at Chatham Hills, Reef was watching DeChambeau work through a practice session on the driving range when an unusual interaction unfolded between a member of DeChambeau’s team and golf reporter Ryan French of Monday Q Info.

French was positioned in the designated media area and filming DeChambeau during the practice session. Reef observed that DeChambeau appeared frustrated with his swing as he continued working on the range.

A short time later, a member of DeChambeau’s team approached French and asked him to leave the area.

Reef reported the incident on X shortly after it happened.

“Bryson DeChambeau is on the range right now and visibly frustrated with his swing,” Reef wrote in his original report. “Ryan French of Monday Q Info was filming Bryson from the media area and wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. Someone from Bryson’s team then approached him and had him leave.”

The post quickly gained attention throughout the golf world and became the basis for coverage from several national outlets.

GolfMagic credited Reef with first reporting the incident, while Heavy Sports also cited his firsthand account of what occurred on the range. The story was later picked up by additional golf and sports outlets as the incident gained traction across social media.

For Crossroads Sports, the moment represented exactly what the Indianapolis-based media organization has worked toward since launching more than a decade ago — being on site, providing firsthand reporting and covering major sporting events involving Indiana and the national sports landscape.

Reef was not involved in the confrontation itself. Instead, he was a credentialed media member who witnessed the situation and reported what he saw from the practice range.

French later shared that DeChambeau personally reached out to him by phone following the incident. French said the two spoke for approximately 20 minutes and that he appreciated DeChambeau making the call, while keeping the substance of their conversation private.

The situation also came amid increased attention surrounding DeChambeau and his interactions with members of the media during LIV Golf Indianapolis.

For Crossroads Sports, however, Wednesday’s story was also an important reminder of the value of having independent local media on the ground at major sporting events.

Instead of reacting to reports from somewhere else, Crossroads Sports was there when the story happened.

Reef’s firsthand account was subsequently referenced by national golf outlets covering one of LIV Golf’s most recognizable stars.

Crossroads Sports will continue its coverage from LIV Golf Indianapolis throughout the week from The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield.
